Gambling Via Cell Phone?

In the bid to make more money than humanly possible, it turns out that the online gambling industry is looking to cell phones to help turn in some more customers.

This has been in the works for the past few years, as various gambling insiders have claimed that cellular phones represent the next wave in online gaming. But the jump in the industry has never lived up to the expectations or the possibilities, leaving many opportunities wasted and leaving the medium unimpressed with the reality. In large part, technological problems have been the major hold-out in any long-term success.

But with cell phones changing and smartphones now filling up more pockets than ever, many online gambling groups are taking a fresh look at gambling online with mobile devices. BlackBerry and iPhone devices are sweeping the nation, so many insiders feel that the opportunities are simply waiting to be snapped up.

Gaming industry executives at the Fifth Annual Mobile Gambling Summit believe that these opportunities will develop into something significant for their industry. Ladbrokes, William Hill, Bet365, and Rank Group have all signed deals with mobile software provider Mfuse, which is a positive step in the right direction for these groups.

With the technology getting better, the capabilities for gaming are improving as well.

Matt Welch, an expert on mobile poker software, says, “We now have a 0.2 second delay for a decision in poker, which is pretty much the same speed as online. Four years ago that delay was 16 seconds, which meant a hand of poker could take as long as 20 minutes. Obviously no one wanted to play at those speeds.”

So with better technology and more options for gambling on mobile devices, will you step up to the plate for a round of poker on your cell phone?
